MSS, BGMEA sign MoU to ensure eye health services to RMG workers

Eye Care Program (ECP) of Manabik Shahajya Sangstha (MSS) and Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to provide eye care services to ready made garment workers.
The representatives of ECP and BGMEA expressed their commitment to implement the eye care initiative, in a meeting held at the BGMEA Complex on 13 January 2024.
The focus of this partnership is to provide primary eye care services, including basic eye examinations, vision testing, eyewear provision, and referrals for more complex eye disorders.
Speaking at the meeting, BGMEA President Faruque Hassan lauded the collaboration, emphasizing its potential to significantly enhance the eye health of RMG workers.
“Providing eye care services to garment workers will contribute to workplace productivity, safety, and overall job satisfaction alongside ensuring physical well-being,” said Faruque Hassan.
Tarikul Ghani, Advisor, Manabik Shahajya Sangstha, narrated ECP’s experience of providing comprehensive eye care services to seven large garment factories and also highlighted the importance of the eye care initiative to increase productivity and better quality of work.

Saiful Islam, Head of Admin & HR, BGMEA; Md. Aman Ullah, Assistant Secretary, BGMEA; Shalomi Sangma, Senior Program Officer, MSS; Salman Sayeed Raihan, Senior Program Assistant, MSS; and Ferdous Hasan Warin, Senior Program Assistant, MSS, were present at the meeting.
